Cookie Policy

This policy explains which cookies the Basis Network website uses, what they are used for, how long they stay, and how the user can manage them.

Last updated:

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in the user's browser when they visit it. Cookies let the site remember information about the visit (session, preferences, previous decisions) and, in some cases, collect data about how it is used in order to improve the service.

2. Types of cookies by purpose

  • Essential: strictly necessary for the site to work. They do not require the user's consent.
  • Functional: they improve the experience by remembering preferences. They require consent, except when they are set as the direct result of an action by the user.
  • Analytics: they collect information about how the site is used, tied to a pseudonymous identifier, not to your name. They require consent; how ours is obtained and how it is withdrawn is in section 3.1.
  • Advertising: they track the user across sites in order to show personalized advertising. Basis Network does not use advertising cookies for its own purposes and does not run personalized advertising. Microsoft Clarity, the analytics tool described in section 4, sets identifiers of Microsoft's own that Microsoft does use, among other things, for advertising purposes; you can prevent this by rejecting analytics cookies.

3. Cookies we use

As of the date of this policy, the Basis Network website sets three cookies of its own. Two hold your decision about the analytics ones; the third, basis_lang, holds your language and exists only if you choose one or respond to the language suggestion. Until you do, we store nothing to pick your language: addresses without a language prefix, such as the root or /docs/, take you to the first language in the list your browser sends with every request in the Accept-Language header, if it is one of the site's five (Catalan, Galician and Basque count as Spanish), and otherwise to English. All the other cookies belong to the analytics tool described in section 4 and are active unless you decline it. Added to those, and only if you visit the booking page, are any the meeting calendar provider may set under its own domain; they are described in section 4.2.

3. Cookies we use
Name Type Purpose Duration
basis_consent Essential Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we don't have to ask you again. 6 months
basis_consent_net Essential Carries that same decision to the subdomains of basisnetwork.com.co — the faucet and the explorer — so that it holds on all three without being repeated. 6 months
basis_lang Functional Remembers the language you chose, so that the site respects it and addresses without a language prefix take you to it. It holds only the language code (en, es, pt, fr or de) and is written only when you choose a language in the language switcher or respond to the language suggestion: visiting the site does not create it. If you accept the suggestion, it stores that language; if you decline it or close it with the Escape key, it stores the language of the page you are on, so we don't suggest it again. It applies to basisnetwork.com.co only, not to its subdomains. 1 year
_clck Analytics Microsoft Clarity: visitor identifier for this site. 1 year
_clsk Analytics Microsoft Clarity: groups the pages you view one after another into a single session. 1 day
CLID Analytics (third-party) Microsoft: identifies the first time Clarity saw you on any site that uses this tool. 1 year
MUID, SM, MR, ANONCHK Analytics and advertising (third-party) Microsoft: they identify the browser across Microsoft domains and synchronize that identifier. Microsoft also uses them for advertising and for its own operational purposes. Up to 13 months

Microsoft does not publish the durations of the Clarity cookies in its documentation. The ones in the table are those observed in the browser, and Microsoft sets them, not us: they can change without us announcing it.

Analytics cookies are enabled from the moment you arrive, and the notice shown while you have decided nothing tells you so: by carrying on browsing, you accept them. You can decline them right there, or later from the Cookie preferences link in the footer. When you do, the page reloads to stop the tool, the cookies it had left under our domain are deleted, and the site keeps working normally. Your decision, whether you accept or decline, applies to basisnetwork.com.co and its subdomains.

3.1. How the choice is presented

The notice has two levels. The first summarizes the purpose and offers two actions: Accept, which confirms what is already running and takes the notice away, and Preferences, which opens the second level, where the control to decline lives. In the preferences panel the cookies are grouped like this:

  • Essential — always on and impossible to switch off. In practice they are the first three rows of the table above. Two of them, basis_consent and basis_consent_net, are the record of this very choice; the site cannot be provided without them, and they require no consent because they are strictly necessary to honor your decision. The third, basis_lang, is not strictly necessary but functional, and it sits in this group because it has no switch either: it is written only when you choose a language or respond to the language suggestion, and since it is the direct result of that action on your part, it requires no consent, as set out in section 2.
  • Experience improvements — this is the name the panel gives to the analytics cookies described in section 4. They come switched on from the moment you arrive, and they can be switched off at any time without losing a single function of the site. Analytics cookies are not part of the essential group and never will be: measuring usage is not necessary in order to provide the service.

Rejecting is done from that panel, by switching off Experience improvements and saving. Closing the notice without pressing either of the buttons records no decision: analytics stays on, which is what the notice announces, and the notice is shown again on your next visit so you can decline if that is what you want.

4. Third-party services

4.1. Analytics tool

The Basis Network website uses a third-party analytics tool, on from the moment you arrive and switchable off at any time. It lets us understand how the site is used so we can improve it; we ourselves do not use it for personalized advertising.

Microsoft Corporation — United States

Microsoft Clarity: heatmaps and replay of the interaction with the page (pointer movements, clicks and scrolling), plus events we tag ourselves, such as pressing a booking button or opening a frequently asked question. Microsoft acts as an independent controller with respect to the purposes it pursues on its own account with this data, advertising among them, and not as a provider that processes the data solely on our instructions. With respect to the read and write operations on your device that give rise to that collection, Basis Network and Microsoft may be regarded as joint controllers; Basis Network is the point of contact for exercising your rights.

Microsoft Privacy Statement

Clarity offers a mode that avoids setting cookies as long as there is no consent, but that mode does not stop its code from running and carrying on sending data. That is why we do not rely on it to honor a refusal: when you switch off Experience improvements and save, the page reloads to discard any code already running, and the cookies the tool had left under our domain are deleted. From that point on, not a single byte is requested from Microsoft's servers, and you can check it in your browser's network tab.

The data is processed in the United States, a country included by the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (the Colombian data protection authority) among those with an adequate level of data protection. For visitors from the European Economic Area, Microsoft is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its European entity maintains standard contractual clauses with the U.S. parent company.

4.2. Meeting booking (only on the booking page)

The booking page shows a calendar for reserving a video call with our team. That calendar is provided by HubSpot, Inc. (United States) and loads inside an embedded frame served from meetings.hubspot.com. When you use it, HubSpot may set cookies of its own in your browser, tied to its domain and not to ours, and it receives the data you type in to book the meeting: name, email and whatever you want to tell us.

HubSpot Privacy Policy

Three clarifications that matter, because they mark exactly how far this goes:

  • Only on that page. no other page on the site loads anything from HubSpot. In particular, we do not use HubSpot's tracking code, which is the one that would follow your browsing across the rest of the site.
  • No Basis Network cookie is set because of this. the calendar runs inside its own frame and under HubSpot's domain; that is why no new row appears in the table in section 3.
  • It loads without a notice of its own, because it is what you asked for by entering. it is not analytics: it is the tool that does exactly what you asked for by entering that page. If you do not go to the booking page, nothing from HubSpot is loaded. The analytics cookies in section 4.1 follow what section 3.1 says, on that page too, and you can decline them there just as anywhere else on the site.

4.3. Other external services without cookies

The site loads some resources from third-party servers. None of them set cookies, but all of them receive your IP address by the mere fact of serving the file, which is the unavoidable condition of any request on the internet. We list them for transparency:

  • The site's typefaces are served from Fontshare (Indian Type Foundry) and Google Fonts.
  • The three-dimensional animation on the home page is served from Spline and from the public unpkg repository.
  • The cover images of some blog articles are served from Unsplash.

5. Session recording

Unless you decline it, Microsoft Clarity records your interaction with the page: where you move the pointer, where you click and how far you scroll. The replay is not a video of your screen, but a reconstruction of the page built from those movements. It serves one purpose only: to see where people get stuck and fix it.

The tool does not record what you type. Form fields and drop-down menus are masked by configuration in every mode, and their content never leaves your browser. On top of that, the Basis Network site has no forms of its own: the only data you can write to us travels through the HubSpot calendar, which lives inside a frame on another domain and which Clarity cannot read.

Microsoft keeps recordings for 30 days, except those marked as favorites and a random sample, which can go up to 9 months; heatmaps and tags, 9 months. There is a limitation of the tool you should know about: Microsoft does not allow specific recordings to be deleted, only the deletion of the entire project. So we are not going to promise you something we cannot deliver. If you want us to stop recording, switch off Experience improvements and save: the page reloads itself to discard any code already running, and from then on nothing new is recorded.

6. How to manage cookies

Besides this site's preferences panel, you can accept, block or delete cookies from your browser settings. Bear in mind that if you delete the basis_consent and basis_consent_net cookies we will show you the notice again, because that is precisely where we store your answer. If you delete basis_lang, the site forgets the language you chose and goes back to following the one your browser asks for.

7. Changes to this Policy

This Cookie Policy may be updated to reflect changes in the cookies used or in the applicable legislation. The version in force will always be available on this page, with the date of last update at the top. If the purposes for which we ask for your consent change, we will ask you again instead of treating your previous answer as still valid.
