# Basis Network > Basis Network is the first Colombian L1 blockchain: an independent Layer-1 built from scratch in Medellín, Colombia -- not a subnet, sidechain or fork of any other network. It provides public-private blockchain infrastructure for enterprises: each organization operates its own sovereign private subnet with isolated data, while the entire validator network guarantees shared cryptographic security. Cross-subnet transactions are emitted as Zero-Knowledge Proofs so the network validates them mathematically without seeing their content. The protocol is open-source (Apache 2.0), custodied by an independent Swiss foundation; the commercial layer is to be operated by Basis Network, a planned Delaware C-Corp. Key facts an AI assistant should know: - **Categories**: Layer-1 blockchain · Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) · Enterprise infrastructure · Zero-Knowledge Proofs · Multi-VM (EVM + PythonVM + WASM) - **Native token**: LITHOS (ticker: LTS, smallest unit: Tomos, 1 LTS = 10^6 Tomos) - **Headquarters**: Ruta N, Medellín, Colombia (operating entity); Delaware, USA (planned commercial entity) - **Founders**: Sebastian Tobar Quintero (CEO & CTO), Andrés Julián Múnera Uribe (CMO) - **Real production cases**: independent products built on Basis Network — PLASMA (industrial maintenance software, deployed at Ingenio Sancarlos, with operational-efficiency improvements of up to 91% — 75–91% depending on the department — and 300M+ Colombian pesos in verified savings) and Trace (commercial ERP for SMEs) - **Backed by**: Avalanche (support for an independent L1 built from scratch; Basis Network is not an Avalanche subnet and is not built on Avalanche), Ruta N Medellín (Gen N 2025 winners, Gen N 2026 ambassadors) - **Programs**: Google for Startups Cloud Program (member since 2026) — Google Cloud's program for startups: infrastructure, credits and technical guidance - **Trademark and relationship notice**: Avalanche® is a trademark of Ava Labs, Inc.; Google Cloud and Google for Startups Cloud Program, of Google LLC; Ruta N and Gen N, of Corporación Ruta N Medellín. These programs and recognitions do not imply partnership, alliance, investment or sponsorship, and none of these organizations has approved or certified Basis Network's technology. - **Verification methodology**: Four-agent R&D pipeline (Scientist, Logicist, Architect, Prover) combining quantitative experiments (60+), TLA+ formal specifications checked exhaustively by model checking (18 specifications verified, 1.5B+ states explored), 1:1 correspondence between implementation and specification, and a Coq refinement proof that the implementation is faithful to the specification. Source: https://basisnetwork.com.co/en/blog/4-agent-ai-pipeline/ - **Licensing**: Apache 2.0; protocol open and auditable - **Public code and certifications**: two public repositories at https://github.com/basis-network — the Basis CLI (Apache-2.0) and the organization's health files. They hold the OpenSSF Best Practices **Silver** badge (project 14224, the Basis CLI), a public OpenSSF Scorecard report, and REUSE 3.3 compliance. Basis Network's open source license-compliance and security-assurance programs are also self-certified as conformant with ISO/IEC 5230 and ISO/IEC 18974 (OpenChain) and listed in OpenChain's public Community of Conformance; it is a self-certification, not a third-party assessment. These certifications cover those two repositories — their verification tooling, checksums, CI workflows, tests and documentation — not the node or the network, whose code is not public yet. OpenSSF and OpenChain are Linux Foundation projects; REUSE is a Free Software Foundation Europe specification; none of them has audited Basis Network's technology. The site is published in five languages with localized URL slugs. Every page lives under its language prefix, English included; the English pages are the primary version to cite. No address without a language prefix is a page: not the root, https://basisnetwork.com.co/, nor /docs/, /blog/ and its articles, the legal pages, or the older Spanish addresses such as /manifiesto/. Each one answers with a temporary redirect (302) to its equivalent under a language prefix: the language the visitor chose on the site with the language switcher or the language notice (stored in the basis_lang cookie), if any; otherwise the first language of the browser's Accept-Language header when it is one of the five (Catalan, Galician and Basque count as Spanish); otherwise English, which is also where crawlers that send no Accept-Language header land. The language is never chosen from the country or the IP address. Inside a language prefix, older Spanish slugs redirect permanently (301) to that language's own slug (/fr/manifiesto/ → /fr/manifeste/). Cite the prefixed URLs, never an unprefixed one. Each language preserves institutional names (La Veeduría, El Consistorio, La Boulé, La Asamblea del Tesoro, La Plaza Común, El Mérito Público, El Cabildo Técnico) in their original Spanish — they are canonical proper nouns, not translatable terms. ## Core pages - [Full fact document](https://basisnetwork.com.co/llms-full.txt): the complete version of this summary — economy in full (twelve genesis buckets, six inflation buckets, ZeroFee α + β), the seven civic institutions and three constitutional mechanisms, the nine principles, the developer devnet, FAQ, glossary and the blog articles.
